I have hope for the future! I recently spent a weekend in Houston Tx. with some 20-somethings. I was working on my book. These individuals were kind, friendly, helpful and generous. We had a lot of fun. They offered their time and skills freely, without expectation of getting something in return. They are so smart; they knew how to use the latest technology to solve problems. It took their great patience to explain it all to me. They collaborated with each other to offer other solutions. They didn't seem to care who got the credit.
We had a couple philosophical discussions. They hold to their faith yet show such acceptance and inclusion. I tried hard to not be the, know it all old lady with strong opinions. I sincerely enjoyed listening to them talk, learning about what they valued. It is encouraging to know these young adults will be around as I grow older.
It always bugs me when people get negative about "this generation." I believe that every generation had some really bad and negative characteristics but also has some wonderful kids that will rise to the surface. Those who are willing to do the right thing, to work to make our world a better place, to make efforts to correct the mistakes their parents made. This gives me hope.
